Accreditation

The Middlebury Animal Hospital has been accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) since 1974. We were one of the first veterinary hospitals in the State of Vermont to be certified by the American Animal Hospital Association.

Fewer than one of five veterinary facilities in North America are AAHA certified facilities. We are the only AAHA certified practice in Addison County and one of ten in the State of Vermont. To keep our certified status we are periodically reviewed and inspected and required to maintain a rigid set of standards covering medical records, examination facilities, pharmacy, pathology, diagnostic imaging, anesthesiology, surgery, dentistry, nursing care, housekeeping, continuing education and emergency services. We are proud of our facility and our staff.

History 

The Middlebury Animal Hospital began its existence as the Goss Animal Hospital and was run by two generations of Goss Family veterinarians. It evolved from a mixed (farm, equine and small animals) to a small animal practice when Dr. Ward Goss built the present building in 1965. Following Dr. Goss' death in 1968, the practice was purchased by Dr. Arthur Greiner and run by him until his retirement in 1988. At that time the practice passed to Dr. Thomas Munschauer who continues to run and be run by the operation.

Facility

In 1995 the hospital underwent a complete renovation. Along with remodeling and refiguring the interior, major equipment was replaced or updated. We are pleased with our hospital and are proud of our ability to provide sophisticated animal care.

Surgery is performed in a sterile environment with monitoring equipment and a veterinary technician in attendance. We have an in house lab for routine work and send samples by overnight courier to a central veterinary lab for more involved diagnostics. X-Rays and dental procedures are performed regularly.
